Indro Montanelli non nascose mai di aver comprato e sposato, a ventisei anni, una bambina eritrea di dodici anni, vendutagli dal padre. Lo raccontò, anzi, a Enzo Biagi durante un’intervista in TV nel 1986: “Aveva dodici anni, ma non mi prendere per un Girolimoni, a dodici anni quelle lì erano già donne”. “Quelle lì” sono le donne eritree, che durante il colonialismo fascista gli uomini italiani compravano come schiave sessuali. Era una pratica nota come “madamato”, una relazione temporanea sancita con uno scambio di denaro che permetteva di acquistare una giovane moglie africana.
